1_ Empúries

The greeks settled down here at the beginning of the 6th century before Jesus Christ, and later the romans startedthe romanization of the peninsula (2nd century before jesus Christ) also from this place, not only because of the strategic reasons that the gulf was offering them, but also due to the indubitable beuty of this enclave. The excavations are situated at the distance of two kilometres of l’Escala and at a little farther than five hundred metres from Sant Marti d’Empúries. From both places you can get at the enclosure through a pedestrian promenade inaugurated in the year 92 on the occasion of the arrival of the olympic flame.

2_ Costa Brava

The geographical situation of what is now known as Costa Brava, has been for centuries a passing through zone and establishment for numerous peoples and cultures, and the door of entrance to the Peninsula from the Mediterranean Europe.
The large quantity of historical remainders in the zone are evidence of this fact. More than 200 historical enclaves are inventoried, among others, old slaughterhouses, watering, places, Arab baths, Chapels, houses, casinos, castles, cemeteries, old people’s homes, electric and hydroelectric power stations, cloisters, collegiate churches, medieval collections, neoclassical and modernist buildings, deposits, hermitages, churches, factories, fountains, monasteries, medieval settlements, built-up areas, shelters, theaters, towers and roman villas.

3_ Casino-Castle of Peralada

The Castle of Peralada, already mentioned in the 9th centurywith the name of Castle Toló, was the centre of the country of Peralada.
It has been object of various modifications and enlargements; the eastern façade is of Renaissance style and at the end of the 19th century was again enlarged under the direction of the french architect Grant. It is surrounded by a large garden.
The palace was purchased in 1923 by Miguel Mateu I Pla, who assembled a noteworthy collection of art (glasses, pottery, painting, books, manuscripts) and sponsored the edition of scholarly books, library of Peralada. Today the estate continues in hands of the family Mateu and cannot be visited as a whole. Neverless, in one part of the castle is the casino, and the gardens remain open in july and August on the occasion of the international Festival of Music of peralada. There is also the Museum of the Castle of Peralada.

4_ Romanesque Road

The Middle Ages in Catalonia was a period of special importance for the territory. Against the widespread view of a dark time and devoid of all beauty, where the lards and religion were able to cast aside all sort of art, progress and cultural development, Romanesque monasteries and churches appear, spread out around the territory.
The feudal epoch was the hystorical moment when catalonia’s pillars was founded, the period of its birth, county by county, shaping a culture bound by the language, the military campaigns and common traditions. Romanesque monasteries are more than artistic remainders, they are testimonies of the social and political reality of the epoch, authentic centres of power and management.

Travellers can so get, in a different way, into the history of Catalonia by means of its Romanesque heritage.

5_ Dali Museum

The museum contains an extensivefan of works with describe the artistic trajectory of Salvador Dalí, from his first artistic experiencies and his creations inside surrealism, uo to the works of the last years of his life. The theatre-Dalí Museum must be seen as whole, as the big work of Salvador Dalí, since it all was conceived and designed by the artist in order to offer the visitor a genuine experience so as to get into his world, wich is captivating and unique.

It must be said that the rooms designed by Dalí are from the 1 up to the18, whereas the rooms 19 up to 22 are result of the progressive extensions of the museum.

6_ Aiguamolls de l’Empordà (Marshland of l’Empordà)

In the low plains of the rivers Muga and fluvià, where the waters of both rivers flow into the bay of Roses, you find a string of damp zones populary known as aiguamolls (marshland).
These zones embrace a collection of ponds, small lakes, pools and salt marshes that shape a landscape satured with water.
The interest of the marshy zones is based on the fact that they are places biologically very productive, with a remarcable wealth of flora and fauna of species particular of this environement. The present day marshlands are not more than the evidence of an ancient lacustrine zone that took up, as a matter of fact, all the plain of the bay of Roses.

7_ Golf

Peralada Golf, Torremirona Golf and Castelló d’Empuries Pitch&Putt are tree indispensable locations in the area for fans of this sport.
Magnificent rounds of up to 6000 metres, integration in the landscape, preservation of the environement, and a mild climate, reasons that make more than advisable to devote a day to training in these circuits, fit both to professionals and to players of leisure time.

8_ Roses and Cadaqués

In Roses the fishing part and the bay, sheltered from the Tramuntana, have been giving place, with the time, to a wide zone of beach of fine sand and quiet sea that make this town a point of destination preferred by bathers and summer tourists. Cadaqués connected to the rest of the Empordà through the road starting from Roses, shows itself as an itinerary with a lot of delight for a little, postcard village, that will delight the visitor owing his particular aesthetics and looks of the past, more characteristics of this area.

9_ The Empordà

The Empordà shapes with the exception of Cape of Creus, a large plain, hemmed in between the Pyrenees, the mountain range of the gavarres and the mountains along the coast of the area of la Selva.
Bathed by the Tramuntana quite often, the plain of the Empordà offers innumerable tourist attractions to the visitor and extremelyagreeable climate during all the year. Close to the border with france and far away from the crowds of the big cities, it is a splendid zone of stay, with plenty of traditional cornersand farm produce, where you can discover a rich cooking and surprising combinations.
